Dear Ruth,

I received your nice letter this morning when I got home from work and I got Mamma’s letter that she wrote Friday night, last night. I left the room yesterday morning and never got home till 8 o’clock last night. We got our final O.K. on driving, listened to a long talk in the forenoon and in the afternoon they took six of us out to the Fair grounds and we each had to stop the car 3 times, once with the reverse and power, once with just the reverse and once with the air brakes. The first time I went 141 feet trying to stop, the next time 129 feet and the last time I got stopped in 91 feet. Two went over that and one went under. And this morning I started in alone. I worked from 5:48 to 7:57 on Emerson. I got along pretty good but it is no fun. This afternoon I work a one man car from 3:05 till 3:35 and then a two man car till 7:09.

Say Ruth I am awful sorry that the dogs ran away with the things in the cooler but I am sending you some more today and I think you had better move the cooler in the old house and keep the door locked from now on.

I’m glad you like the raincoat. I see quite a few coats that color, so you are right in style.

I liked the map you sent and hope you have lots of fun in the sand box.

Where did you haul the sand from? Well Ruth I don’t think of any more news so

by by with lots of love,

Daddy

P.S. Daddy is getting mighty lonesome without you.

Dear Ruth,

Well how is my little girl getting along? Say, when I looked at the book you sent me I thought it was out of the store you made it so nice.

I suppose you are getting ready for school. I hope you like it. I think you will like to carry your lunch, it will be like having a picnic every day but you must work hard while you are in class. Let me know what you need to work with and I will send it to you. Tell Mama that I forgot to get her shoes fixed but will get them to her this week.

They still have the little black puppie here, they got him a little collar so now he is all dressed up. Well Ruth, don’t forget to write often.

Love and a great big hug from Daddy

Dear Ruth,

That was a nice letter you sent me. Do you have lots of fun with the wagon going down hill? Take good care of the old kitty and if I were you I would fix her a nice bed in one of the boxes out in the old part.

Did it seem good to have a new roof the other night when it rained so hard? It rained awfully hard here last night. It started at about 4:30 p.m. and rained for three hours. Well Ruth I will have to go to work and it looks as if I will have to wash my dinner dishes after supper. I had potatoes, tomatoes, ham and bread for dinner. Write often.

My Dear Ruth,

Daddy gets awful lonesome without you here so write often and have Mama finish the roll of film in the camera. If there are two pictures left, have Mama take one of you, and John, and then you take one of her and send them to me. I have a great time a-washing dishes and getting a bite to eat. Say Ruth I haven’t been to the Library yet to get the books for you but will try and do it soon.

Do you still dress the kitty in the doll’s clothes? Do you both go after the milk or do you sometimes go alone? I saw Tose out in the yard and she asked when you are coming home. How does the bracelet fit? Does it match your new dress? Did I get the right size anklets?

Well you will think I am a question box. I like my new belt very much, the one I got with my birthday money. I wore it today. Well I must close.

Lots of love and kisses from Daddy.

Dear Ruth

I got your nice letter asking about the fire works. I cannot send them thru the mail but will get your things and we will all have our Fourth later. I have been in to see about shoes about 6 times and I want you to have Mother help you to mark around your foot while standing on a piece of paper. Have the pencil close to your foot so I can get your size and I will see that you have a pair of shoes right away and I will send the anklets so you will have them too. I will get the books you asked for the first time I get down town.

My but it is lonesome here without you children and Mother, but I sure like to get the nice letters from all of you. Ruth, have Mother take your and John’s picture and have the kitten dressed up in the doll clothes. I will get the Sunday paper and send to you.

Well lots of love from your Daddy

Dear Ruth,

I believe you are making a regular dollie out of the kitten. I wish you had the little doll carriage. I bet he would like to ride in it too and be all tucked in like a regular baby. Your garden is nice. Am going to have radishes out of it for my dinner, and the hollyhocks are just loaded with buds. The bachelor button plant in the little round garden is crowding the other plants and I don’t know what to do about it. It has pushed the others against the fence.

I bought a box of strawberries the first day I was home and I ate some of them fresh for dinner and then I cooked the rest of them. I wish you could have helped me eat them for they were real good. Well I’m telling you children all the news so guess Mother’s letter will be short.
